On 11th October 2008, our school conducted its Open Day and Sri Sedaya Carnival 2008 as part of an annual event for Sri Sedaya School. The objective is to foster good will between Sekolah Sri Sedaya and the neighbouring schools in Subang Jaya.
The event started at 7.30 a.m with the registration of all the eager participants at the school foyer. There were four registration counters open for each event for that day.
Around 8.30 a.m all the participants, parents, teachers and supporter were invited to the hall for the Opening Ceremony.
The Opening Ceremony started with a speech by the CEO of Sri Sedaya, Dr Shih Toong Siong, followed by the President of the Sri Sedaya Carnival, Encik Putera Hamzah. The Open Day and Sri Sedaya Carnival 2008 was officially launched by our PTA chairman Encik Muhammad Adam . The opening ceremony lasted for about 15 minutes.
There were six types of activities conducted; Telematch, Colouring Contest, Fan led by the respective teachers from the secondary and primary level.
Following was the venue and time for each event:-
Telematch : Basketball court.
Colouring Contest : Sri Sedaya canteen.
Fancy Dress : Sri Sedaya hall.
School Exhibition : School compound
Young Scientist : Sri Sedaya hall
Health Talk : Science Lab
The first activity was the telematch. More than 80 children took part in the games. There were 3 categories in Category A for Kindergarten and Primary 1,Category B for Primary 2 and Primary 3 and Category C for Primary 4,5 and 6. Every team had 5 participants and was lead by a teacher.
Following were the games for each category:-
Category A : Passing the hoop / Pulling a tennis ball using a hoop.
Category B : Running with a hoop / Passing a tennis ball (up and down)
Category C : Blowing balloons / Running with tennis ball and hoop.
When the games ended, all the participants, parents and a other family members were ushered to the canteen for the next event, that was the colouring contest. More than 80 participants took part in the contest that started at 9.30am until 11.00am. This contest had 3 categories which were Category A for Kindergarten and Primary 1, Category B for Primary 2 and Primary 3 and Category C for Primary 4,5 and 6.
While the kids were buzy doing their colouring, the parents were invited to hear the Health Talk in the science lab. The talk were given by Ms Choong from the Selangor Nutrition Institute. The seminar lasted about 2 hours starting around 10am until 12 noon. More than 15 teachers and parents attended the talk.
Around 11.00 am, everybody went to the school hall for the Fancy Dress Fashion Show. With a free and easy theme for this show, more than 40 contestants walked on the stage with their fancy dresses and did their signature walk. The judges for the fashion show were Mr Shashi, Puan Halindah and Ms Thana. The event lasted 1 hour and ended with a big applause by the enjoyable audience.
For the Young Scientist Competition, 4 booths took part with 11 students involved. All the booths were set up in the hall. The judges for this competition were Ms Tee, Ms Lee and Mr Kadir. The booths were judged for creativity, team work, log book and presentation. The contest started at 9.00 am ended at11.00am.
The secondary school prepared 4 booths for the school exhibition in the hall. The booths were for biology, art and chemistry. They were prepared by secondary students. The teachers who were in charge of the exhibition were Ms Tee and Mr Subra.
After the activities ended, all the participant were invited for some light refreshments at the school canteen. At the same time, the highlight of the event which was prize giving ceremony was held during that time.
The prize giving ceremony started off with a speech by the CEO, Dr Shih Toong Siong, and followed by the Sport Carnival President, Encik Putera Hamzah. All the winners received their medals from Dr Shih Toong Siong, Ms Julia Woo, Encik Putera Hamzah and Ms See Minn. The prize giving ceremony lasted for about 45 minutes.
There were 4 schools that took part; Sekolah Sg Way, Tadika Anak Bijak, Summer Academy and Sekolah E-Ceria. More than 250 students and 20 teachers were involved. Parent and supporters came to support the participants and that made this event more lively and merrier. Our second Open Day and Sri Sedaya Carnival 2008 was a big success. Open Day and Sri Sedaya Carnival 2008 ended at 1.30pm.
