First Ever Cross Country Race

It was the morning of the 9th of February 2007. The school was buzzing with excitement and activity as the final preparations were made for the first annual cross country race for the school.By eight sharp, every member of the school gathered at the school lobby. Mr. Shasi, the main coordinator came forward to brief the participants for the last time about the route.

The route which was generally around the industrial area was to be covered that day. The girls from all the classes and the boys from Form 1 and 2 were grouped together to cover a distance of three kilometers. On the other hand, the boys from the third to fifth forms had to cover a total of five kilometers. The race started from the Arch and ended in the school field. Before the students proceeded to the starting line at the Arch, they were reminded of the rules and regulations of this competition.

At precisely 8.45 a.m., the CEO, Mr. Peter Tan started the race by sounding the air horn. All the participants eagerly took off on the trail, every one of them hoping to win the race. Although the route was tough, nobody showed any sign of giving up. The air was tense with competition as everybody tried to overtake one another. At ten past nine the first few runners arrived at the school field to finish the final two hundred meters of the race. Many more came in afterwards. The atmosphere was filled with cheers and shouts as the students rendered their support to their friends who had yet to complete the race.

The prize-giving ceremony was held at ten sharp. Mr. Peter Tan went up to the front and gave us a congratulatory speech. The first ten participants to complete the race from each group were awarded medals.Even though many did not win, most were happy as they had completed the race. Friends of the winners and the winners themselves were celebrating their accomplishment. All in all, the first annual cross country race was a complete success.
