"Malam Harmoni" was the theme for this year's Parents' Night event held on the 29th of July. The VIP was UCSI's Vice Chancellor, Dato' Peter Ng. At 7.30 p.m., students and parents arrived at the Sekolah Sri Sedaya Hall, the venue for the occasion. The night began with the school's Police Cadets, St John's Ambulance members and Scouts marching in, dressed smartly in their respective uniforms. After that, the national anthem was sung. Speeches were made by Mr Adam, PTA chairman and Dato' Peter Ng. Their inspirational speeches warmed the hearts of everyone. The latter then officiated the annual event.
The night united Sedayans from the primary and secondary divisions. Everyone played an important part in making the event a wonderful success. The opening act was a multi-cultural one, performed by the primary school students. They danced to an Indian song, performed the Chinese fan dance, and clapped their hands to a traditional Malay dance. As everyone enjoyed their dinner, the performances went on. Next up was a modern dance, entitled Rising Sun. Mei Jin, Rou Nie, Yingki, Jia Yin and Jia Qin wowed everyone with their energetic dance. After that, the primary two students sang a medley of songs, namely Rasa Sayang, Geylang Si Paku Geylang, Coming Round The Mountain and Edelweiss. The cute little children impressed everyone with their ability to sing so well.
As the night continued, a Chinese music piece was played on traditional instruments. Chai Xin Hui played the zither, while Chong Leng Fei accompanied her on the flute. Next in line was a song by Louise, Shannon, Na Young and Adrienne of Form One who sang "When You Believe" by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. Their captivating performance earned them a resounding applause from the audience. Primary Six Students then danced to a pop song entitled "Give It Up", followed by a dance performed by some parents. Their well synchronized dance to the traditional Malay song "Embun Sok Sek" caught the audience's attention.
A well-choreographed dance to the Beatles' Twist and Shout by the primary five students had the audience in a trance. Primary One students then rocked the stage with their Bhangra dance. After that, Sekolah Sri Sedaya's ballet students danced to an Irish folk dance, La Cheile. Next was a Hip Hop dance by some secondary students. Their exciting dance to the song Maneater and Give It To Me had the audience hypnotized. A Malay song, "Ikhlas Tapi Jauh" performed by the primary three students, had the audiences' hearts melted. The simple but meaningful song touched everyone.
The night continued with a band performance by the Form Four students, singing "Hapuskan Aku". Then, a Sarawakian dance was performed by the students of Primary Four. Their performance captured the crowd's attention. A surprise performance was announced. Dato' Peter Ng and Mdm Norilawati sang a Tamil song, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, much to the crowd's applause. Another surprise performance by Neal Winter and family enthralled the crowd. Their rendition of "Only You" mesmerized the audience. More band performances entertained the audience as the night carried on. Students of Form Three sang to the song "There She Goes" and a Japanese song. Another song, "When You Say Nothing At All" by Ronan Keating, was performed by some Form Four students. Jasmine Yeap also sang a song, "Freak Out" by Avril Lavigne. The popular song had everyone in the mood. The singers' vocal prowess earned them standing ovations. The closing performance was a fantastic one. Traditional dances were performed. A Malay dance and Chinese dance left everyone gaping in awe.
The final performance was by Tharane Ravi, who danced a traditional Indian dance. Her delightful performance was rewarded with a thunderous applause. All in all, this year's Parents' Night was a great success. All the hard work and dedication had finally paid off. Everyone went home feeling contented, looking forward to next year's Parents' Night 2008
